Some of the best beaches for eloping in Nova Scotia are off the beaten path. And yes, we have white sand, too! I’ve lived in Nova Scotia for most of my life and been a photographer here for the last 10+years. These are my favorite beaches for couples looking to elope and escape the crowds.
THINGS TO NOTE
– September is when the ocean is at it’s warmest for the best swimming
– The sunset during Summer months happens around 9pm (July) and 8pm (later in August) if you want that golden light!

Located on the South Shore, Summerville Beach is pretty secluded. Being in a rural area, during a weekday you won’t run into too many people. It’s a soft white sand beach on the ocean. It also features beautiful peninsulas of sand as the tide comes in and out!
PS Also once there was a guy there walking his two parrots and we got to take photos with them sooooo how could it be better than that?!

Clam Harbour is located an hour away from Halifax on the Eastern shore. It is secluded enough to avoid major crowds on any weekday. It has white sand, and the sunsets are epic!

This is DEFINITELY the best beach to elope in Nova Scotia if you’re looking for absolute privacy. Located on a short hike at the end of Hirtles Beach, this secret beach is off the beaten path. You have to rappel down with a rope about 20 ft to get to it, and it’s surrounded by gorgeous cliffs!

Located in Kingsburg on the South Shore of Nova Scotia, Hirtles Beach is big and beautiful. It has rock coverage during high tide, and lovely sand coverage at low tide. The Beach is large enough to escape the crowds, and on a weekday it couldn’t be more perfect!

This little baby beach is perfect during low tide, and extra hidden away. It’s located off a dirt road on the other side of Hirtles Beach. Hardly anyone knows about it except a few locals!

One of my person favorites, Chimney Corner beach is located in rural Cape Breton and the scenery is unreal. Surrounded by gorgeous cliffs, greenery, and seclusion like no other. You can also stay at the stunning nearby Seasky Cottages that overlook the ocean!

Also located on Cape Breton Island, South Harbour beach is perfect for an elopement. At the northern tip, it’s far from civilization and perfect for a picnic and summer swim post “I dos”. Surrounded by lush green hills, golden sunlight, and my fav, NO people!
It’s absolutely FREE. There are no fees for eloping in outdoor public spaces in Nova Scotia. All you have to do is hire an officiant ($200) and a photographer/planner to help with all the logistics and capture it all!
