There are SO MANY budget friendly Nova Scotia Wedding venues. As a wedding & Elopement photographer here for the last 10+ years, I have seen everything. I am a huge advocate of spending your wedding budget on what actually matters. It’s not about the big performance. Experience over things any day! And in NS, you can have an amazing wedding experience on a smaller budget.
There’s no need to spend 15k on a venue!
All National (and most municipal) Parks only require a small permit fee. Historic sites are a very unique option and usually have very low rental fees for the space. We also have Campgrounds, Wilderness Retreats, and 100s of amazing airbnb properties for only the cost of a couple of nights.

There are a number of locations in Cape Breton Highlands National Park that are perfect for smaller, more intimate weddings or elopements. The permit cost is only $208.50 CAD, and that’s it! Of course, it comes with the stipulation that weddings in these areas are not private events, as the parks still remain open to the public. As with Provincial parks (which are free venues for weddings – see that blog here), formal receptions are not allowed, but picnics are good to go!

Aspy Trail
Broad Cove Mountian
Corney Brook Trail

Municipal Parks are an amazing low-cost option for budget friendly Nova Scotia wedding venues. Most of them cost between $50 – $100 CAD for the permit, and that’s it! Of course, it comes with the stipulation that weddings in these areas are not private events, as the parks still remain open to the public. As with National and Provincial parks, formal receptions are usually not allowed, but picnics are good to go!

Prices vary depending on the site in question, number of guests, if a reception is also required, etc. For event space rental alone, some are only the cost of the entrance fee (which is sometimes free!). Many historic sites offer small weddings and elopements for less than $500 CAD. Of course, the smaller the gathering, the less expensive it is. These locations offer very unique backdrops for a pretty small fee!

There are National, Provincial, and Privately owned campgrounds in Nova Scotia that offer scenic and natural backdrops for small weddings and elopements. Prices vary depending on the site in question and number of guests, entrance fees, etc. You can easily just book a campsite(s) for nightly fees (starting at $25/night) to ensure access. There are often large green space areas perfectly suited for smaller ceremonies.

For a little extra $$, AIRBNBs offer one thing all of the above doesn’t – PRIVACY. Booking a cute airbnb for a couple of nights will run you WAY less than a typical wedding venue. It will also be private, unique, pretty, and super stress-free. Costs definitely vary, but you can get really nice places for less than $200/night. Typically suited to 30 guests or less, and receptions may not be permitted.
Okay so the venue cost can be really cut down! Awesome! But how much does it cost to have my small wedding or elopement (under 30 guests) in Nova Scotia with all the other stuff? Like an officiant, accommodations, photography, etc? Don’t worry, I got you!
