When it comes to an elopement day in Nova Scotia, trust me, you got food options. 🙂 From picnic baskets for two to private chefs to high tea to fancy catering, we’ve got you covered! Before I did elopement photography, I did several years in the wedding industry and boy or boy do I know and love food! I’ve also been living in Nova Scotia for the last 10+years, and I travel A LOT and do my scouting research like a good little foodie. 🙂
By all means this list isn’t extensive, but it does cover my favorite options out there for cakes, desserts, high tea, catering, and private chefs for your elopement day in the Halifax area. Some of the businesses listed below offer catering for as little as just you two (the dope couple!) or a small group with loved ones.
The capital city of Nova Scotia, surrounded by east coast rugged beauty and rum-a-tum-yummy eats! Something to keep in mind that many of the businesses from Halifax deliver and cater to other areas of Nova Scotia (so if you like one but you’re planning on eloping away from the city, definitely ask if they deliver or cater!).
Definitely a fan-favourite, Amanda and Maddy run an adorable and delicious ship here in Halifax and they offer the most amazing cakes and incredible treats for your special day. Think gorgeous custom cakes, mini cakes, macarons, sugar cookies, all elegant, all lick the plate worthy!
Into Artisanal chocolate? These lovely humans came all the way from Syria and built their second home here in Nova Scotia. Their chocolate is amazing, and we love supporting local businesses!
Artisanal chocolate: Take 2. French-inspired delightful chocolates that taste as good as they look.
4. Layers
One of our favorite places for cupcakes in the city, without a doubt! Their icing is TO DIE FOR and their flavours make our mouths water. They do everything from classic chocolate and peanut butter to coconut lemon to salted caramel and cinnamon bun. Get them in my mouth, and be quick about it!

Best Wedding Cake Bakeries in Halifax
These amazing caterers shot themselves to the absolute top of our favorite food experience providers in the Halifax area – unbelievably scrumptious and a pleasure to work with! They also offer dine-in for small groups under 20 guests, and their space is just as wonderful as their food. Perfect for a small celebration with your closest foodie humans!
A steady and popular pick for tons of our clients in Halifax. We’ve even chosen them ourselves for one of our events! Buffet style catering has never been so yum – or cute! Think rub your tum yum sandwiches and desserts for the perfect tea party. They also offer charcuterie and even to-go boxes for 10 or more guests. An awesome option for your small elopement!
3. Kitchen Door
Also an amazing choice if you’re into the boxed or buffet style, Kitchen Door Catering has delicious food and they are just fantastic humans. Some of the best food we’ve had in the industry for sure, with everything from small bites to full on breakfast or dinner!
TWO MORE HONORABLE MENTIONS:
4. Chef Ben Kelly – Operating out of Dartmouth and Cape Breton but travels across Atlantic Canada and is very well-rated.
5. The Wooden Board – Based out of Windsor but they do travel across Nova Scotia as well!
Want even more hot eats for more guests? For full on dinner catering, we’ve got another blog for that!
Wedding Catering Options in Halifax
Not just for the cakes and cookies! Legit their picnic baskets come with the whole shebang for a 24 hour rental. You’ll get everything you need from delicious treats to comfy blankets and cushions to all necessary cutlery and linens! Even a little non-alcoholic bubbly to share. And if you want to go even harder, you can add a little floral bouquet upon request. One stop adorable shop, anyone?
Into a little salty with your sweet? Scanway does a variety of catering, but also does sweet/salty picnic baskets for two! They have several different options to choose from depending on your tastes, including charcuterie, Italian inspired, to legit salmon and chicken. Would 1000/10 recommend!
Halifax has seriously upped its charcuterie game in the last 5 years, which means we have TONS of awesome options for takeaway boxes for our wonderful couples. Here are our top 3 favourites, all of whom offer a variety of delicious cured meats, cheeses, fruits and breads for the devouring!
Our Favorite Downtown Halifax restaurants
1. Mercantile Social – There are paintings on the ceilings and it’s SO COOL.Â
2. Drift – Great nautical themed spot, with traditional but elevated Nova Scotia food.
3. The Queen’s Marque – This whole area on the Halifax waterfront is loaded with cool restaurants, so definitely check it out! Drift is just one of the greats, and we 10/10 recommend.
4. Fawn – We love this spot for their Afternoon tea service on weekends, high-end, adorable, and wonderful staff.
Located on the way to Peggy’s cove, this beautiful restaurant is about a 15-20 minute drive outside of the city but it’s worth it. Especially if you want something a little more secluded, and surrounded by nature. The food is awesome, and it has always been a crowd favourite. It’s super cozy and has great views of the golf course and surrounding trees!
