As wedding photographers (and therefore peeps who have been to A LOT of weddings), we really love the romantic, silly, and sweet moment of a first look. We are totally all for them and here’s why!
Say what? Yuppp, that’s right. One of the best things about doing a first look is that you don’t have to share that moment when you first see one another with anyone else. It can be so hard to get any time to yourselves on your wedding day, and it’s important to find those chances and take advantage of them. When you do a first look, it can be just you and your photographers (and when you have awesome photographers, they are super unobtrusive and give you space!). The first time you see one another is so special, so making it a thing and having it captured is magical. And it can make your wedding more unique, because you can choose a first look spot that’s special to you as a couple!
It’s a huuuuge weight lifted once you finally see one another, so it makes all the hype of the ceremony and nervousness calm down a little bit. Let me tell you, it’s a wonderful thing to be a little more relaxed once you actually have to stand up in front of everyone and tie the knot. When you’re more at ease, you can be more present in the moment for your ceremony. Your day flies by so fast, it’s important to be able to take it all in. You want to remember your ceremony, right?
When it comes to wedding timelines, we sure have seen a few. When you do a first look before the ceremony, it’s also a great time to hammer out some of the wedding party photos / part of the couples portrait session. This way you don’t have to do a huge chunk of photos right after the ceremony, and you get variety in your images because they are taken in different locations at different times of day. ANNND your guests don’t have to wait around for you forever. Win-win-win!
So if you’re on the fence about doing a first look, I hope this has helped you weigh your options and see the positives! And if you’re still looking for your perfect photo team for your big day, Kev and I would love to hear from ya!
