When you picture the perfect place to elope, what comes to mind? Picture this: a rugged coastline kissed by the Atlantic Ocean, sweeping views of rolling mountainous cliffsides, charming villages full of history, and beaches so serene, you’ll forget the world exists. Sounds like a dream, right? Well, that dream can become a reality in Nova Scotia, one of the most romantic and picturesque provinces in Canada and just one of the best places to elope in Canada hands-down!
And the best part about eloping here in Canada? It’s SO SECLUDED so say goodbye to crowds and soak it all in with just the two of you!
Nova Scotia is a land of contrasts, from its rugged coastlines to its rolling hills, dense forests, and sweeping farmland. You can literally say “I do” with the stunning backdrop of the ocean crashing against jagged rocks, or in the heart of a lush green vineyard—talk about setting the mood! Whether you’re looking for the ocean breeze of the Cabot Trail, the rugged cliffs of Cape Breton Highlands, there’s a view that will match your love story perfectly. And don’t forget about the numerous waterfalls!
Absolutely jaw-dropping views, with rolling mountains, winding roads, and unbelievable sunsets. Located on the Cabot Trail, this hike is probably the most popular in the area. It’s so popular that you may need to reserve your spot to hike – though it’s still completely free to elope here. The hike itself takes about an hour and a half there and back, and it’s pretty even ground. #worthit

Bet you didn’t know Nova Scotia had gorgeous turquoise waters! Everywhere in Cape Breton is so secluded, on a weekday you might meet a local or 2 and that’s it. The hike to get to this stunning pool is short. It’s only about 15 minutes on a dirt ATV trail. This makes it very accessible.

Located in the North East of Cape Breton Island, this stunning peninsula is just a 20 min walk on an easy trail. Secluded and lesser known, you may just be the only people there!

Located at the Northern Tip of Cape Breton Island, this beauty of a look off is just a 20 minute hike through the forest. You likely won’t find many other people here, even at peak summer season!

The east coast of Canada is known for it’s gorgeous and super accessible abundance of waterfalls. You don’t have to hike very far to get these incredible views, like Baxter’s Harbour and Egypt Falls!

Baxter’s Harbour Falls is a 50ft waterfall surrounded by goegrous cliffs and next to the ocean. It is super secluded, easy to get to, and you don’t even have to hike for it! You can essentially drive right up and park, walk about 30 seconds down a small hill, and enjoy the views. The Best time go is May – September, or even during Winter if you are into the frozen waterfall look (it’s stunning FYI!). You need to pay attention to the Tide times for this spot. Low tide is when you can walk across the shore more easily.

Egypt Falls is one of my favorites in all of Nova Scotia. It’s so gorgeous, and only a 1.8km hike to reach it. The hike is downhill and relatively steep, so going back up isn’t quite as fun BUT at least it’s short! The best time to go is during a weekday to avoid larger amounts of people, and during the warmer months from May to September.
Nova Scotia and New Brunswick reside along the infamous Bay of Fundy. It boasts the largest tides in the world, and is teaming with insane excursions, wildlife, and some of the most stunning cliffside landscapes. You can walk on the seafloor during low tide, go whale watching, see puffins, seals, and more!
There are a couple of ways to see these stunning rock formations on the Bay of Fundy. You can hike to it, or you can explore it by private boat tour. The hike is beautiful, but it is long at 12km (out and back) so takes a good half day or so. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a gorgeous hike and totally worth it! But for your elopement day, taking the private boat tour would save you some time and sweat!

One of the most gorgeous places where at low tide you can actually walk on the seafloor. This amazing hidden gem is so stunning at sunset, and absolutely secluded from the public. You also don’t have to hike to get to it, as it’s a privately owned park and there is space to drive right on up to it! There is also a spectular offer where few people can have a luxury dining experience here, perfect for pairing for your elopement!

Briar Island is as quaint as they come when it comes to Small Town east coast charm. Sitting straight on the Bay of Fundy, it’s home to several well reputed excursion companies where you can view some pretty amazing wildlife. We have the infamous Humpback whales, orcas, seals, puffins, and more.

While Nova Scotia’s cities, like Halifax, offer vibrant culture, the province’s smaller towns and villages offer the intimacy and privacy perfect for an elopement. In places like Lunenburg, a World Heritage Site, you’ll find colorful historic homes along the waterfront and cobblestone streets perfect for photos. For a totally different vibe, head to Wolfville or the Annapolis Valley, where charming farms and vineyards give off that warm, rustic feeling.

There’s no place like Nova Scotia when it comes to iconic lighthouses. If you’ve ever dreamed of exchanging vows with the waves crashing behind you and a lighthouse standing proudly in the background, Nova Scotia is the ultimate destination. Famous lighthouses like Peggy’s Cove, Cape Forchu, and Cape d’Or set the scene for an unforgettable ceremony. Plus, many are off-the-beaten-path enough to avoid too many tourists, so your ceremony will feel like your own private slice of heaven.

Elope and then explore! Nova Scotia is the perfect mix of romantic getaway and adventure. After you’ve said your vows, you can hike through the Cape Breton Highlands, go whale watching off the coast, or even take a scenic helicopter flight over the Cabot Trail or to Sambro Island. For couples who love history, the Louisbourg Fortress offers a step back in time. Or, if you prefer to wind down in a unique way, why not take a sailboat tour or cozy up with a glass of wine in the Annapolis Valley?

Beaches on the East Coast of Canada are seriously underrated. Chimney Corner is one of my favorites, but there is also Hirtles Beach, Conrads, Rissers, and more! There are stunning sand beaches in Nova Scotia, and cliffs for miles for some seriously jaw-dropping views.

At the end of the day, Nova Scotia is just downright romantic. The gentle breeze off the Atlantic, the glow of the sunset on the water, the soft sound of the ocean’s waves—it’s hard to find a more romantic place to say, “I do.” There’s something about the province’s mix of natural beauty and small-town charm that makes every moment feel special and intimate.

It’s actually pretty simple! Many couples choose to handle the legal paperwork in their home country. This allows them to be fully present and stress-free during their elopement experience. However, it’s actually pretty easy to do the legal ceremony in Nova Scotia! Anyone can get married here, you just need 2 witnesses and to hire a Justice of The Peace. You can read all about the step-by-step process in my blog below:
Cost can range from $4000 to $15000 CAD depending on how extravagant you want to go. This includes your justice of the peace, venue, photographer & planner, accommodations, food, and smaller details! I’ve created a post below. It dives a lot deeper into the costs. The post also discusses several options for excursions, activities, and more!
The East Coast offers the perfect blend of stunning landscapes, intimate settings, and heartwarming hospitality. Whether you’re looking for coastal beauty, historic charm, or a mountain adventure, this province has it all. It’s not just a place to elope—it’s a place where you can build memories, share quiet moments, and begin your marriage in one of the most breathtaking corners of the world.
So pack your bags, grab your partner, and head to Nova Scotia—it’s the Canadian elopement destination of your dreams.
